CDER, Jacobs and Newlyn, with full contact details
Folkestone and Hythe's own non-payment page names the three enforcement firms it uses for council tax and publishes contacts for each: CDER, with a 24-hour payment and enquiry line on 0330 107 0023 and info@contactcder.co.uk; Jacobs, with 24-hour payments on 0330 008 0430 and enquiries on 0345 601 2692; and Newlyn, with general enquiries on 01604 633001 and a payment line on 01604 625136. The detail worth keeping is that the council also prints Newlyn's welfare team, on 01604 625214 or welfare@newlynplc.co.uk, which is the right first call if a Newlyn-held debt collides with illness, disability or serious hardship.
The council prints both fee scales in full
Rather than quoting one set of enforcement fees, Folkestone and Hythe publishes the two scales side by side: for older instructions, £75 at the compliance stage, £235 plus 7.5% of any debt above £1,500 at the enforcement stage, and £110 plus the same percentage for sale of goods; and for instructions received from 1 May 2026, £79, £247 plus 7.5% above £1,900, and £116 plus 7.5% above £1,900. Which column applies depends on when the firm received the instruction, and a fee on a CDER, Jacobs or Newlyn letter can be checked directly against the council's own table. What the stages mean in practice is covered in our council tax bailiffs guide.
Costs, contact and acting early
On court costs the page says only that costs are added to your account if you receive a summons, without a figure, so take the amount from the summons itself. The recovery team can be reached on 01303 853 425 or at recovery@folkestone-hythe.gov.uk, and an arrangement made there, before referral, avoids every figure in the table above. Complaints about the council can go on to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, and a firm's conduct can be raised with the Enforcement Conduct Board. If the council tax is one debt among several, start at our get help page.
Frequently asked questions
Which bailiffs does Folkestone and Hythe use?
The council's own page names CDER, Jacobs and Newlyn, with payment and enquiry numbers for each, and includes Newlyn's welfare team on 01604 625214. Check the name and numbers on your letter against the council's published details before paying anyone.
What fees can the bailiffs add to a Folkestone and Hythe debt?
The council publishes both scales: £75, £235 and £110 for older instructions, and £79, £247 and £116 for instructions from 1 May 2026, the higher stages carrying 7.5% of debt above £1,500 or £1,900 respectively. The date the firm received the instruction decides which applies.
