Islington Council Tax Bailiffs: The Four Firms, and an Out-of-Date Fee

Islington publishes full contact details for its four firms, CDER Group, Newlyn, Equita and Rundles, but the £75 minimum fee quoted on its page predates the May 2026 scale, so do not check a charge against it. A special payment arrangement can be asked for on 020 7527 2633.

Four firms, all named with contact details

Islington lists its enforcement agents on its own non-payment page, with a phone number and email for each: CDER Group on 0330 460 5295, Newlyn on 01604 633 001, Equita on 01604 628 360, and Rundles on 0800 081 6000. That transparency is genuinely useful: when a letter arrives you can match the firm's name against the council's own list before engaging, and against our profiles for a sense of how each company handles arrangements and complaints.

A fee figure that has fallen behind

Islington's page says there is a minimum fee of £75 once an account reaches an enforcement agent, and that it increases the more you owe. That figure belongs to the fee scale that was replaced in May 2026, so the amounts on a genuine current letter may be higher than the council's page suggests. Rather than treating either number as a mistake, check what stage your case is at and what the current scale allows for it in our council tax bailiffs guide, which carries the figures now in force.

Islington's special payment arrangement

Before a debt gets anywhere near a doorstep, Islington offers what it calls a special payment arrangement, applied for online, to spread arrears when the normal instalment pattern has broken down. The council tax team can also be reached on 020 7527 2633, by email at revenues.services@islington.gov.uk, or by post at Council Tax, PO Box 34750, London N7 9WF. An arrangement requested while the account is still with the council is usually simpler and cheaper than one negotiated with a firm after fees have been added.

The road from reminder to referral

Missed instalments in Islington follow the national pattern: a reminder, the loss of the right to instalments if it is ignored, then a summons, court costs and a liability order, after which the council may pass the account to one of its four firms or use deductions instead. Nothing in that sequence is instant, and each stage is an opportunity to arrange, so a debt usually reaches CDER, Newlyn, Equita or Rundles only after several unanswered letters.

If something goes wrong

A complaint about the conduct of any of the four firms can be made to that firm directly, using the contact details the council publishes, and escalated to the Enforcement Conduct Board, which oversees enforcement standards. If the complaint is really about Islington, for instance an account passed out while a valid arrangement was being kept, it goes through the council's own complaints procedure and then to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman. Our get help page covers where to turn when the arrears sit alongside other debt.

Frequently asked questions

Which enforcement agents does Islington council use?

Islington's own non-payment page names four firms with full contact details: CDER Group, Newlyn, Equita and Rundles. Any of them can be instructed on a council tax debt, so check the name on your letter against the council's list and against the firm's profile before you respond.

Is the £75 fee on Islington's page correct?

It reflects the old national fee scale. The scale changed in May 2026, so fees on a current case can be higher than Islington's page implies. The stage your case has reached determines what can lawfully be charged, and the current figures are in our council tax bailiffs guide.
